Description

The dinosaurs of our childhood aren’t around anymore. So why are the paralyzing stigmas that women of color are uncultured or underserving of a life filled with jet-setting and pages of passport stamps? Today these stigmas very much alive and rampant.
There is no validity in that we don’t desire to be represented in international or domestic travel but the dominate story portrayed in the travel industry did not reflect the African diaspora.

All of the aforementioned was enough for our founder, Danny, to begin one Instagram account in Janurary of 2015, that today has amassed to over 100K followers, predominantly melanin rich, experience seekers. Numbers don’t lie, we are ready & deserving to fulfill our callings, explore this beautiful world and change the narrative.

MEET THE FOUNDER

Growing up in underserved and overlooked communities throughout  Mobile, Alabama and no budding aspirations to stray off the beaten path…..yet landed as a pioneer in the black travel movement, a socially engaged businesswoman, wife, mother and mentor to many. When people say, “Started from the bottom now we here”, Black Girls Travel Too (BGTT)  founder, Dianelle Rivers- Mitchell (Danny) embodies that defining journey that she was blessed to not become a statistic but a success.

Dedicated to imprinting new jet-setting generational cycles among the black community and particularly with black woman, Danny’s journey began with one woman, Ms. Lugood, from her youth affording her and her peers an opportunity to see more, do more and become more. A single field trip to Washington, DC!

Sure, D.C. may not be a wanderlust destination for some, but perspective check. This was like going to London in early August for a Black, marginalized youth from Mobile, Alabama!

On that single trip from Mobile to Washington, D.C., right before her eyes, it was as if a motion picture evolved from black and white to full vivid color. Danny’s first encounter with travel revealed how the experience + power of traveling can shift your perspective and unveil your purpose.

While impressionable in age, this experience was one that wouldn’t fade into oblivion like many happenings in one’s upbringing. This trip proved to serve her beyond her wildest dreams!
After experiencing the monuments, museums, and memorials, Danny was only a shell of the little uninspired, impassioned girl that arrived in DC just days before.

The seed had been planted and as years passed by it was continuously cultivated as she went on to become a wife, a mother, a corporate career woman, and now a business owner. Ultimately, culminating to the bountiful harvest that today is Black Girls Travel Too.
